The legacy of the collector and editor José Lázaro Galdiano (1862-1947) who fought to maintain and repatriate works by Spanish artists in the country. The museum has more than 12,000 pieces of painting, sculpture, and decorative arts in which the work of European and Spanish artists of the 15th and 19th centuries stands out, as well as paintings by masters such as El Greco, Murillo, or El Hieronymus Bosch.
